Adhikar programme
is an initiative of Caritas India (North Zone) to empower the poor and the
marginalized to access their entitlements by imparting to them the required
knowledge of the provisions, skills and confidence to approach the concerned
authorities and to realize their rightful entitlements.
Being a Result-Oriented programme and following a Right Based Approach,
Adhikar aims at facilitating communities to access their entitlements for a just
living. The major components undertaken in this programme will be Right to
Work, Right to Food, Right to Health and Right to Education.
As Caritas
India was supporting the Integrated Development through Empowerment and Action
(IDEA) programme in the 13 dioceses of North India for the past 5 years
starting from 2007 March, it was found that all the dioceses started focusing
on Rights based Approach for development. Hence, it was a result of this that
the Adhikar programme has been initiated. This three year programme will purely
focus on:
- Right to Work
- Right to Food
- Right to Health
- Right to Education
The project
area covers 13 dioceses of Ajmer, Jaipur, Lucknow, Agra, Allahabad, Meerut, Jhansi,
Gorakhpur, Bijnore, Bareily, Bettiah, Patna, Buxar in the states of Uttar
Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar.
